The photograph carries a built-in presumption of truth and is crucial to the construction of my work. Using the medium of image as a form of visual language I am drawn to the malleability of the figure, dehumanising the form, and utilising it as an experimental prop on which to build the foundations of my image.
Specifically, I have been drawn towards exploring fashion as image and how promotional photography’s objectification of the body enables for an exploration in the interplay between the conversion of human subject and the inanimate object. Therefore, I intend to challenge the way the body is perceived in relation to fashion photography.
Through mocking the illusion of object as something which creates a sense of belonging and stability in navigating our day-to-day life, there is a playfulness within the outward presentation of the work, whilst it inwardly looks to highlight troubling concerns. By manipulating the nuances of photography, I have found that I have the possibility to provoke, yet not dictate its meaning.
